The Etudes address the various characteristics and techniques that make Glass's style so distinctive and recognisable.
Philip Glass, the world-famous composer and founder of minimal music, places his Etudes in the tradition of Chopin and Debussy. He composed the Etudes over a period of 20 years and completed the cycle in 2014. Initially Glass wrote the Etudes, as he himself says, to play himself and to improve his piano technique. Later, pianists all over the world accepted the challenge and took listeners through this beautiful late work by this influential composer.
The Etudes deal with the various characteristics and techniques that make Glass' style so characteristic and recognisable. Feico, who specialises in Glass' work and is a close acquaintance of the composer, plays a selection of the most beautiful Etudes, ranging from the most rhythmically stirring, the most lyrical, to the most personal and tranquil music the composer ever wrote.
Glass & More
The concert is part of 'Glass & More': a series of different concerts in the Meervaart in which the music of Philip Glass is the leitmotiv. In addition, work by other composers will be performed. All this in cooperation with Cor Knoester of Hommage Philip Glass.
